2x 10 Tonne Crane Manufacture & Installation

West Crane Services has successfully completed another major project — the design, fabrication, delivery, and installation of two new 10-tonne overhead cranes for a long-term customer. This project highlighted not just our engineering and manufacturing capability, but also the strength and expertise of our installation team, who overcame significant site-access challenges around existing machinery and infrastructure.

A Complex Site with Limited Access

From the outset, this project wasn’t straightforward. The customer’s facility was fully operational and filled with large, fixed-position machinery, creating tight clearances and difficult pathways for:

  • Crane components

  • Elevated work platforms

  • Rigging equipment

  • Installation crews

Traditional installation methods weren’t possible. Our team had to plan the entire project with precision — from lifting methodology and travel paths to the positioning of trucks and cranes — ensuring zero disruption to the customer’s production schedule.

Engineering a Solution That Fits

Our in-house engineering team designed two custom 10 tonne single girder cranes suited specifically to the site’s layout and operational requirements. Key features include:

  • Optimised low-headroom Guralp wire rope hoists

  • High-efficiency travel drives for smooth operation

  • Robust Australian-made steel construction

  • Safety systems compliant with AS 1418 and AS 2550

  • Precision runway alignment for maximum performance

Every element was engineered to maximise lifting height while maintaining safe clearances from existing structures.

Manufactured in Melbourne — Built for Australian Industry

Both cranes were fabricated in our Melbourne workshop by our experienced manufacturing team. The build included:

  • Girder fabrication and welding

  • End carriage assembly

  • Motor and gearbox setup

  • Electrical fit-out

  • Factory load testing and quality assurance

As a 100% Australian-owned business with full in-house capabilities, we take pride in providing local, Australian-made lifting solutions that are built to last.

A Carefully Planned Installation

The installation phase required detailed preparation, including:

  • Specialised lifting plans

  • Coordination around machinery movements

  • Restricted access EWP work

  • Staged delivery to minimise footprint

  • Close communication with the customer’s production team

Despite the complexity, our installation crew executed the works safely, efficiently, and without interrupting the customer’s operations.

A Great Outcome for Our Customer

The result is two fully operational 10-tonne overhead cranes that provide:

  • Increased lifting capacity

  • Safer, more efficient workflows

  • Reduced manual handling

  • Long-term lifting reliability

  • Improved production flexibility

The customer was extremely pleased with the outcome — not just the cranes themselves, but the professionalism and adaptability of the WCS team throughout the entire project.

Proud of Our Team

This project showcased what West Crane Services does best:

  • Smart engineering

  • Quality Australian manufacturing

  • Skilled and safe installation

  • Clear communication and planning

  • Delivering solutions in challenging environments

We’re proud of the team for delivering another successful project under tight access constraints and ensuring a top-quality result for our customer.
