Christmas Shutdown Crane Overhauls & Upgrades Delivered

The Christmas shutdown period is one of the most critical maintenance windows of the year for many industrial sites. With production paused or reduced, it provides a narrow opportunity to complete major works that would otherwise cause significant disruption.

Over the recent Christmas shutdown period, West Crane Services successfully delivered a range of crane upgrades, major inspections and preventative maintenance works, while still maintaining our regular service, inspection and breakdown support across Victoria — ensuring customer assets were fully operational and production-ready for the return to work in 2026.

Scope of Works Completed

During the shutdown period, our team completed multiple high-value maintenance and upgrade activities across customer sites, including:

Crane Upgrades & Modernisation

We completed a number of crane upgrade projects focused on improving safety, control and long-term reliability. These works included:

• Installation of radio remote control systems

• Supply and installation of new Guralp wire rope hoists

• Electrical upgrades to support modernised crane operation

These upgrades not only improve day-to-day usability and safety, but also extend the service life of existing crane assets.

10-Year Major Inspection Overhauls

As part of statutory and best-practice maintenance requirements, we completed:

• 10 × 10-Year Major Inspections on hoists and associated crane components

These major inspections involved detailed assessment, disassembly where required, rectification of defects and certification to ensure ongoing compliance, safety and reliability.

Major Preventative Maintenance Works

In addition to inspection programs, our technicians carried out 4 major preventative maintenance repair scopes, including:

• Load rope replacements

• Hoist brake replacements

• Travel wheel replacements

• Electrical repairs and upgrades

Preventative maintenance during shutdown periods helps minimise unplanned failures, reduce breakdown risk and improve crane availability during peak production periods.

Maintaining Business-as-Usual Support

While shutdown works were underway, West Crane Services continued to deliver:

• Routine servicing and statutory inspections

• Support for customers not in shutdown

This ensured cranes across our customer base remained safe, compliant and ready for immediate use as operations resumed.
